DAVID MARK JENKINS
In 2018, David Mark Jenkins volunteered at the Community Thanksgiving Dinner for the first time.
After the event he posted this on his facebook page.
Thought/Poem # 271 - This Thanksgiving, for the first time, I was able to attend and serve at our islands annual Thanksgiving dinner. Nearly 700 diners and volunteers came out of an island of only 7,000. I hope this poem captures some of its flavor.

A Community Dinner
Thanksgiving at its best -
Cooks and servers, dishwashers and organizers,
all volunteering, all donating, all working
for the multitudes - new friends,
old friends, and all between.
Thanksgiving at its best -
Turkeys by the dozen, gravy by the gallon,
pans of red potatoes, pans of sweet potatoes,
tons of rolls, buckets of salads,
Waldorf never had it so good!
Pies by the pecan and pumpkin,
whipped cream, ice cream, lemonade,
tea and coffee - drinks for all - a Feast for all,
Thanksgiving at its best -
Quilts on the walls, candles and corn husks on the tables -
the round-red tables, with babes-in-arms, seniors in beards,
young and old, serving and being served,
in this grand dinner, this grand Thanksgiving,
with so much to be thankful for,
in this small community,
with its small community dinner,
where not only the turkey got stuffed!
